Here are some basic tips for when it comes to picking a degreaser.
- Consider the surface first: What is it made of? Are you dealing with multiple materials? Choose a chemical that is not going to corrode, damage or stain the surfaces you’re dealing with, and most importantly, know what type of grease you’re dealing with. Some degreasers are better for organic soils and some are better for inorganic soils.
- What tools and equipment will you be using to clean with? Always make sure your equipment is compatible with the chemicals you are purchasing. For example, pressure washers are typically setup to run either acidic chemicals or alkaline, but can also be rigged to use both alternatively. To avoid damage and inconvenience, make sure you know the equipment you are buying for.
- Prepare for clean-up. Many cleaners out there have specific disposal instructions and some even require a certain type of machine for disposal.
- Protect yourself and your surroundings. Always read instructions, double check dilution ratios and wear proper personal protective equipment. Remove or cover anything that could be damaged by the product, and ensure you have proper ventilation at all times.
